Beyond Canvas
Our goal is to partner with local American manufacturers to create simple and durable duffel bags for Ukrainian people displaced by Russia’s war in the Ukraine. Through its partnership with manufacturer PortaBrace, Beyond Canvas is aiming to manufacture and donate travel gear and essentials to Ukrainians forced to flee.
The founders come from Jewish Ukrainian families that were displaced during the collapse of the Soviet Union. We are aiming to provide assistance to Ukrainian refugees who have again been forced out of their homes by the Russian Regime.
Our Goal
Why we started Beyond Canvas
After scrambling to help friends and family still located in Ukraine after the war broke out, we were pointed to a narrow gap in donations that we felt could have a large impact. Large organizations were sending food, water, clothing, and financial assistance but many people displaced or fleeing had no extra luggage or bags to carry all their belongings. We started Beyond Canvas to service this gap.
When all you have is what you can carry, we wanted to make sure that people could bring what is important to them.
Donations Through Local Organizations
By partnering with local synagogues and Jewish family services organizations we were able to distribute our bags directly to areas of Ukraine were mass evacuations are taking place. Additionally, Temple Sholom pointed us to a new area of need, refugees immigrating to the US. To help Ukrainians moving to the US we have allocated a second portion of bags to be delivered and donated to those immigrating.
